Hybrid Update: Pro-Rating of Onsite Days & Appeals Process - BOI 33/26 - BOI Group

13 October 2026

BOI 33/26

We are pleased to share a positive update on two hybrid issues that your Sector Committee has been actively pursuing with the Bank over recent months.

Following ongoing negotiations, we have reached agreement on improvements to both the pro-rating of onsite attendance requirements and the hybrid working appeals process. These changes will mean greater fairness in the pro-rating onsite days and a more efficient appeals route.

  1. New Model of Pro-Rating Onsite Days:

One of the concerns consistently raised by members was the Bank’s interpretation of how onsite attendance should be pro-rated when leave is taken during the month. We have now agreed a new pro-rating model for all hybrid workers.

From now on, when a staff member takes leave during a month, their normal onsite attendance will be reduced proportionately.

For example, where a person is normally required onsite 8 days per month and takes 5 days’ leave in a month containing 20 working days, their reduction will be calculated as:

5 ÷ 20 x 8 = 2 fewer days onsite.

Fractions of days will be rounded to the nearest whole day, with figures below 0.5 rounded down and figures of 0.5 or above rounded up.

Bank holidays will not affect the normal required days onsite.

  1. Changes to Appeals Process:

We have also reached agreement on changes to the appeals process that will make appeals faster.

Previously, the process comprised two internal appeal hearings followed by an external appeal hearing. We have agreed to amend the process so that, going forward, there will be one internal appeal hearing followed by an external appeal hearing.

This will shorten the overall process and allow members to access an independent, external hearing at an earlier stage.

This change applies to all new appeals. Appeals submitted before 13 October 2026 will continue to be dealt with under the terms of the original agreement. Members who choose to pursue a new appeal after this date should continue complying with the Bank’s policy while their appeal is heard.

These changes are the result of sustained work by your Sector Committee on issues raised by our members. If you have any questions about how these changes may impact you, please get in touch with your Sector Committee representative using their contact details below.
