FSU welcomes constructive and informative meeting with EU Commissioner.

Establishment of a banking forum in Ireland among issues discussed.

John O’Connell, General Secretary of the Financial Services Union has described the meeting between the FSU and Mairead Mc Guinness, European Commissioner for Financial Stability, Financial Services, and the Capital Markets as both constructive and informative.

Among the issues discussed were the establishment of a banking forum in Ireland and comparable forums in place across Europe, the current situation in relation to strategic banking reviews currently underway in Ireland and banking regulation.

“The FSU emphasised the importance of stakeholder involvement in the future strategic development of financial services and the importance of robust regulation to cover any proposed changes to the current banking system.

We found the engagement with the Commissioner on the issues we raised to be both constructive and informative. I look forward to a continued dialogue on tackling the challenges and opportunities that exist in the financial sector” concluded Mr O’Connell.
