Financial Services Union secures permanent jobs for over sixty agency workers

Over sixty agency workers employed in Ulster Bank are to be offered full time permanent contracts of employment in a deal struck between the Financial Services Union and Ulster Bank.

According to Gareth Murphy, Head of Industrial Relations with the FSU the Union has been raising the unique plight of agency workers in the Banks for some time arguing that many should be offered permanent jobs that will provide better protections and conditions for them.

FSU Head of Industrial Relations with the FSU, Gareth Murphy Stated:

“This is a great outcome for these agency workers in Ulster Bank. Unfortunately, agency staff throughout the banking sector have not had the same protections and conditions which we have secured for permanent staff throughout the pandemic.

This announcement recognises how critical agency workers have been to keeping banking services operating for the public over the last two years

These permanent jobs, if accepted will lead to greater Covid-19 protections and supports, sick leave pay, pension entitlements, greater training supports and importantly will ensure that they are included in the terms of the collective withdrawal framework agreement negotiated between the Union and Ulster Bank.”
