Tullow Credit Union Board of Management decision to ignore calls for them to attend WRC is unacceptable

Board position close to untenable as dispute set to escalate says FSU

The Financial Services Union (FSU) have described the refusal of the Board of Tullow Credit Union to respond to calls for them to attend the WRC to try and resolve the current industrial dispute as unacceptable.

A number of local politicians including Minister of State Jennifer Murnane O’ Connor have called on the board of management to attend the WRC. The dispute is due to enter its third week of stoppages on Thursday as staff look for union recognition and decent pay and conditions.

Commenting Gareth Murphy, Head of Industrial Relations and Campaigns with the FSU said:

"The silence from the Board of Tullow Credit Union to calls for them to attend the WRC is deeply troubling and will only toughen the resolve of staff to continue the strike action.

The current actions of board members in ignoring the wishes of the local community and staff can only contribute to a loss of trust and reputational damage to Tullow Credit Union.

Local support for staff is overwhelming, and the intransience of the board is beginning to make their positions untenable.

The FSU will present proof of public support before the next meeting of the board, which we understand is scheduled for the 29^{th of} September. We hope common sense will prevail and the board, all elected by the members of the credit union,  will act according to the wishes of its members.

If there is no change in the Boards position the FSU will be writing this week to the Board informing them of additional work stoppages over the coming weeks.”
