Accenture need to adopt a voluntary first approach to redundancy process – says FSU.

John O’Connell, General Secretary of the Financial Services Union (FSU) has called on Accenture to adopt a voluntary first approach to proposed redundancies after the company announced a further 890 job losses in its Irish operation.

The announcement by Accenture of 890 job losses follows on from a similar announcement  in late March  to cut close to 400 jobs from its Irish workforce.

Commenting John O’Connell, General Secretary of the FSU said:

“This is a shocking announcement which will cause enormous distress to staff working in Accenture. It is imperative that Accenture handle the thirty-day consultation process properly and with great sensitivity.

During the previous consultation process staff had real concerns about the criteria used by management to identify workers for redundancy, the lack of any real engagement on exploring ways to mitigate against redundancy and the redundancy terms on offer.

This time Accenture need to ensure that the employee representatives are employee nominated to ensure a fair and transparent consultation process.

We will be contacting Accenture management urging them to adopt a voluntary first approach to any redundancy process and will be liaising closely with our members over the coming days.”
