FSU welcomes creation of group to review the collective bargaining.

Workers have the right to fair workplace and the Government needs to support this.

FSU welcomes the announcement by the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar T.D. to create a High-level Working Group under the auspices of the Labour Employer Economic Forum (LEEF) to review collective bargaining and the industrial relations landscape in Ireland.

The Group will consider issues of worker representation in Ireland that are fundamental to the creation of decent and fair workplaces. These include the question of trade union recognition, collective bargaining processes and the determination of pay and conditions at work.

Commenting on this development, Head of Industrial Relations and Campaigns, Gareth Murphy said:

“This is a huge opportunity for Ireland to prioritise decent work and fair work practices. Every worker should have the right to organise, be represented by their union and to collectively negotiate better working conditions.

As a society if we want to seriously address issues like the gender pay gap, low wages in the economy, precarious contracts and If we want all workers to have the right to disconnect then we need to provide institutional support for workers seeking to organise and be represented  by a Union.”
