Strike set to continue in Tullow Credit Union as hundreds sign petition in support of staff say FSU

10 September 2026

Staff at Tullow Credit Union will begin a second week of strike action this Thursday and Friday. The staff who are members of the Financial Services Union (FSU)  are on strike over union recognition, pay and working conditions.

The strike began last week with hundreds of local people signing a petition supporting the staff and demanding the Board of Tullow Credit Union recognise and negotiate with the FSU.

Commenting Gareth Murphy, Head of Industrial Relations’ with the FSU said:

“ The support for staff from local people including public representatives has been incredible.  We expect over one thousand people will have signed the petition by the end of this week.

Staff are extremely disappointed with the attitude and intransience of Tullow Credit Union board members but are buoyed up by the support of their community and are adamant the strike will continue until all issues are resolved.

It is our intention to present the signed petition to the Board of Directors at their next scheduled meeting.

The Central Bank has also been informed of our concerns around the opening of the Credit Union by a single person who is not a member of staff. This raises real issues around security and access and is something that requires clarification from the Regulator.”
