Bank branch network needs to be maintained at current levels says FSU

The Financial Services Union has welcomed the signing of the order by the Minister for Finance, Simon Harris TD compelling financial institutions to provide access to cash and providing regulation for ATM operators.

Commenting John O’Connell, General Secretary of the Financial Services Union said:

“The Access to Cash legislation is a product of the banking review instigated by the then Minister for Finance Pascal Donohoe TD in November 2022.  The FSU were instrumental in supporting the creation of the banking review and the provision of access to cash and new regulations governing ATM operators was one of the key recommendations in the report.

The bank branch network will play a pivotal role in providing cash access and it is vitally important that current levels of local banking services are maintained so that consumers continue to have access to cash and good financial advice.

The report of the banking review contained 34 recommendations. We look forward to meeting with the new Minister for Finance, Simon Harris TD to review progress on each of the recommendations.”
