FSU welcomes AIB commitment on Parents Leave

30 June 2022

The Financial Services Union have today welcomed the announcement by AIB that it is their intention to top up statutory parent’s leave entitlements to full pay for any member with a child under the age of two on the 1st of July 2022 and to extend the statutory right to parent’s leave from 5 weeks to 7 weeks.

Commenting on the announcement Billy Barrett, Senior Industrial Relations Officer with the FSU said:

“This will ensure that parents of a child under the age of two or the adoptive parents of a child that has been placed with a member’s family for less than 2 years on the 1st of July can take up to 7 weeks parent’s leave.

The FSU welcome this development and the agreement that the statutory social welfare payments will be topped up to full pay for the 7-week period and the extension of the benefit across the Group ensuring that members in AIB (GB) receive the same benefit.

The introduction of family friendly policies will help staff and their families at a crucial stage in their family’s development and provide some small protection against the rising cost of living. AIB are the first Bank to announce these changes and we would expect other Banks to follow with similar announcements.”
