FSU issue directive to members in Bank of Ireland to maintain current hybrid working practices

The Financial Services Union (FSU) have today directed their members in Bank of Ireland (BOI) to maintain their current hybrid working practices unless otherwise advised by the union.

In an escalation of the issue the FSU have responded to the unilateral decision by BOI to change working practices in breach of agreed procedures by issuing a directive to their members in BOI to continue their current working practices.

Commenting on the issue in BOI,  John O’Connell, General Secretary of the FSU said:

“The decision by BOI to unilaterally change the working practices of our members is a serious breach of our collective bargaining agreement with the Bank. The proposed starting date for implementation  of 1st September is not acceptable to staff.

The Bank has failed to engage in any meaningful way with the FSU, and with a proposed start date of 1st September has left us with no option but to escalate this matter.

The FSU are asking our members in BOI to continue their current working practices and not to agree to any changes from the bank that would affect their working model until full negotiations are exhausted between the bank and the FSU.

Since hybrid working was introduced in BOI the bank has announced record profits, has managed the departure of Ulster bank in professional manner, has returned over a billion to shareholders and have returned to full private ownership – a testament to the productivity and professionalism of BOI staff.

This situation can be resolved by the Bank acting in good faith and entering into meaningful discussions with the FSU.”
