Financial Services Union to ballot members in Tullow Credit Union in dispute over trade union recognition.

05 August 2026

The Financial Services Union (FSU)  have commenced a ballot of FSU members in Tullow Credit Union in a dispute over the right of FSU to collectively bargain on behalf of its members.

The ballot opens today 5th August, and will close on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.

The FSU represents staff in a number of credit unions throughout Ireland and has recently negotiated collective bargaining rights for its members in Letterkenny Credit union.

Commenting at the opening of the Ballot, Gareth Murphy, Head of Industrial Relations and Campaigns with the FSU said.

"The FSU represents the majority of staff in Tullow Credit Union. The staff are looking for management to recognise the FSU and to collectively bargain with us. The FSU have contacted the management in Tullow Credit Union asking to meet to resolve the situation and negotiate a recognition agreement, something we have done in other credit unions recently. The credit union has so far refused to meet with FSU and agree to their staff’s request for collective representation. Staff are rightly angered by this.

It is disappointing that a trusted organisation like a credit union would deny its staff the basic right of trade union recognition. The right to collectively bargain is recognized internationally as a basic human right. Tullow Credit Union staff members never imagined they would have to vote for industrial action to ensure their workplace rights and entitlements are protected.

We call on the CEO/Chair of Tullow Credit Union to meet with the FSU to try and resolve this matter before it escalates further.”
