The Financial Services Union (FSU) have strongly endorsed the position of the ICTU private sector committee that workers in the private sector should seek a pay claim of 4.7% to 6% in 2026.
Commenting John O’Connell, General Secretary of the FSU said:
“The two FSU nominees on the ICTU private sector committee were happy to support the recommendation for unions organising in the private sector to seek pay claims in the order of 4,7% to 6% in 2026.
This corresponds with the output of a number of FSU surveys of workers in the private sector who have told us of their ongoing struggles dealing with the cost of living.
Budget 2026 gave little solace for workers. Taxes, heating bills, house insurance, and the cost of groceries are some of the items increasing at an alarming rate.
Workers, particularly those on lower pay deserve a decent pay increase that is above inflation. We constantly hear about all the support that business receive, it is now time for business to support their workers.”
