Day of Action for Google workers (November 20)
Googlers across the world are coming together for the Day of Action & Visibility to demand something fundamental: job security at Google
Years of mass layoffs and shrinking severance packages have left too many workers unsure about their futures, even as the company remains financially strong.
We’re uniting behind four key demands from the campaign:
🔹 Guaranteed severance: Every laid-off worker must receive at least the same severance package that was offered in January 2023.
🔹 Voluntary exit packages before layoffs: When change is needed, it should start with voluntary buyouts, offering the same guaranteed severance.
🔹 No forced quotas under the GRAD system: The Google Reviews & Development (GRAD) performance-review system must be based on real performance, not forced rating distributions.
🔹 Severance as leave: Workers on visas or facing complex transitions deserve the option to take their severance as paid “garden leave,” giving them time and stability instead of a lump sum.
We’re not just searching for visibility, we’re making it. By standing together, we’re showing that people, not profits, are what power this company. On November 20, we’ll be visible, we’ll be vocal, and we’ll be demanding that job security becomes a reality, not a risk.

QUESTION - To ask the Minister for Children; Equality; Disability; Integration and Youth if he agrees that the recent statements by a company (details supplied) to cancel a number of aspects of diversity, equity, and inclusion, is extremely concerning; and if she will make a statement on the matter. (Details Supplied) Google
REPLY - I cannot comment on policies of individual companies. However, as the Deputy will be aware, the Employment Equality and Equal Status Acts impose a series of obligations on private sector companies prohibiting discrimination in relation to employment, goods and services. The Programme for Government 'Securing Ireland's Future' also includes a range of measures which will promote gender equality, combat racism and discrimination, and promote inclusivity across the public and private sectors. These include the commitments arising from implementation of the National Traveller and Roma Inclusion Strategy II and of the National LGBTIQ+ Inclusion Strategy 2024-2028 and from the forthcoming successors to the National Disability Inclusion Strategy and the National Strategy for Women and Girls.
