Financial Services Union to ballot members in AIB on hybrid working proposals

16 September 2025

The Financial Services Union (FSU) are to ballot its members in AIB on new hybrid working proposals after weeks of negotiations between the bank and the FSU.

AIB unilaterally announced a change to their hybrid working model a few weeks ago which resulted in significant backlash from staff. Since the announcement the FSU and AIB  have been involved in talks to try and reach a resolution to the issue.

Commenting, John O’Connell, General Secretary of the FSU said:

“The FSU have been in intensive negotiations with AIB since the unilateral decision by the Bank to impose new hybrid working arrangements on a section of its staff.

Following these negotiations the bank have now presented us with their new proposals.

The proposals contain a number of changes to the previous announcement by AIB.

AIB Hubs can be used as one of the 3 days in the office and there is greater flexibility on how these days in the office can be used.

The Bank and the Union will jointly review members pre-existing arrangements to provide exceptions and where evidenced pre-existing arrangements will be honoured.

These proposals also state that any further changes will have to be agreed with the union into the future which will give members clarity going forward.

We have now reached a juncture in these negotiations where we feel a ballot of our members is necessary.

Only members will be balloted on these proposals.

If the ballot is rejected the FSU will refer the matter to the WRC.”
