IBOA welcomes Danske Bank's commitment to Ireland

Issued : 10 February 2011

IBOA The Finance Union has welcomed the ongoing commitment by National Irish Bank's Danish parent, Danske Bank, to its Irish operations which has accompanied NIB's annual results released this morning.

IBOA General Secretary, Larry Broderick, said that although 2010 had been an extremely difficult year for staff of National Irish Bank - with the loss of 150 jobs and the closure of approximately half of the NIB Branch network, "our members will take confidence from the Bank's improved operating performance and its agreement with IBOA on no compulsory redundancies together with Danske Bank's commitment to Ireland.

"This commitment has been confirmed in recent open discussions between IBOA and the Bank's senior management as positive engagement continues in a number of areas related to the day-to-day work in the Bank.

"Since the Bank has finalised its restructuring efforts and established a new business plan, we believe it is now timely to re-focus on developing its staff.

"Our members have always been committed to building a strong viable business in National Irish Bank. We hope that Danske's willingness to restate its commitment to Ireland will ensure that NIB continues to make a significant contribution to the Irish economy," he added.
