FSU General Secretary Announces Intention To Retire

Issued : 2 November 2017

Larry Broderick today announced that he will retire as General Secretary of the Financial Services Union in May 2018.

Mr. Broderick has worked for the Union for 32 years, serving as General Secretary for the past 16 years.

Speaking about his decision Mr. Broderick said, “It has been an honour to serve the members of the Financial Services Union for more than 30 years.  During that time our Union and our members have witnessed immense change in the banking and financial services sector.  However, the basic principles of decency, respect and fairness in the workplace that inspired the founders of the Union in 1918 still remain relevant to our work today.

“It is an exciting time for the Financial Services Union.  FSU is determined to be the voice of staff in the growing banking and financial services sector.  I am proud to have led a strategic renewal of the Union in recent years, culminating in the rebranding of the Union in May 2016.  The challenge for FSU now is to continue to grow in the financial services sector to complement our traditional strong presence among bank staff.

“FSU will now embark on a transparent and extensive recruitment process for a new General Secretary to work with the members of the Union over the coming years.  This will be an important appointment for the Union and we will be seeking qualified applicants from both Ireland and abroad,” concluded Mr. Broderick.
