FSU joins ICTU colleagues at ‘Raise the Roof’ housing rally

On 3rd October last FSU members and staff joined the ‘Raise the Roof’ housing rally outside Leinster House.

Supported by ICTU, the rally involved a wide range of political parties, student groups and national organisations calling for action on the housing crisis.

Among the solutions endorsed by ICTU are the construction of quality, affordable public housing, ending the threat of people being evicted into homelessness and enshrining the right to housing in the constitution.

Fr. Peter McVerry, ICTU President Sheila Nunan and singer Damian Dempsey were among those who addressed the large rally.

The following day the Dáil passed a motion reflecting the priorities of the ‘Raise the Roof’ organisers.  FSU, together with our colleagues in ICTU, will continue to put pressure on the Government to demand action on housing as it’s an issue that impacts on all workers and their families.
